Job Description:

Responsible for reviewing loans, based upon client requirements, to ensure that compliance with appropriate guidelines have been met. Also responsible for analyzing credit, capacity and collateral in accordance with client or agencies established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibility Areas

    • Determine what supporting documents should be in the loan file to support the appropriate product/program type.
    • Ensure all necessary credit information about the borrower is listed on the credit report and that no evidence of fraud is evident.
    • Calculate income for all types of borrowers; handle complex tax returns and related financial statements.
    • Analyze various sources of funds for closing and reserves, insuring they conform to the program/product guidelines.
    • Review and analyze collateral and appraisal information to ensure that the characteristics of the subject property meet the underwriting program/product parameters.
    • Review sales contract and title documents to ensure accuracy, completeness and to determine that they adhere to the program/product parameters.
    • Perform additional research on-line that may be required to support a decision.
    • Ensure authenticity of supporting documentation within the file and that there is no evidence of fraud.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
    • Provide detail oriented written communication as required by each client.
    • Maintain service level expectations set forth for each project assigned to.
    • Maintain relationships with clients, as assigned by Senior VP Management Team.
    • Keep informed of new developments within industry that would affect processes and procedures relative to projects assigned to manage.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of mortgage industry and/or client guidelines and acceptable practices, as well as incorporating any changes/up-dates into daily work process.
    • Monitor personal production expectations to ensure weekly and monthly goals are met.
    • Other functions may be assigned as business conditions change.
    • Maintain a high level of confidentiality of client, borrower and employee information.

Must Have

    • 5+ years underwriting experience in a fast paced mortgage-banking environment.
    • Thorough knowledge of agency, conforming and non-conforming loan requirements.
    • Direct Endorsement and VA LAPP certification preferred.
    • Superior customer service and communication skills.
    • Superior written communication skills.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize workload and accomplish duties in a timely manner, often meeting tight deadlines.
    • Ability to take direction, initiative and work independently.
    • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate with diverse cultures.
    • Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Ability to perform well in a high volume environment.
    • Above average computer skills, inclusive of experience working with MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
    • A post-secondary education in a related field is a plus.
